1300 calls on first day of Exam Results Helpline

Skills Development Scotland’s Exam Results Helpline received 1300 calls on its first day and was visited by the Cabinet Secretary for Education Michael Russell.

The helpline, which offers support, advice and guidance to students and their parents and careers, opened at 8am yesterday.

Calls reached a peak between 6pm and 7pm when over 130 callers dialled the free helpline on 0808 100 8000.

Manned by professional careers advisers the helpline is now in its 19th year.

It will run from 8am until 8pm today (August 5) and from 9am until 5pm until August 26 and 9am until noon on August 27.

Danny Logue, Skills Development Scotland Operations Director, said: “We had calls from young people who received better results than they had hoped for and from young people who didn’t do as well as they had anticipated. Around a quarter of calls were from parents and carers who wanted help and advice for their sons and daughters. Our advice to people is – as always – not to panic. Call the helpline and we can discuss the options that are open to them.”
