2010 Apprentice Finalist to Speak at Enterprise Event for North East Business Week

Budding business men and women from across the North East are being given the chance to find out whether they have what it takes to be an entrepreneur.

Immediately recognisable as one of the final three in the 2010 series of The Apprentice, Jamie Lester will speak at the ‘Have You Got What It Takes To Be An Entrepreneur?’ event which is being organised by Enterprise North East Trust as part of the forthcoming North East Business Week. The free event will take place at 6pm for 6.30pm on Tuesday 19 April 2011 at the Robert Gordon University Business School, Garthdee.

Jamie will be joined by Martin Dickie and James Watt. Both aged just 24, Martin and James founded BrewDog in 2007. Four years on BrewDog is a recognisable brand which has never compromised on quality or attitude. The final speaker, Gary McEwan, became UK entrepreneur of the year when he was just 26 and is currently the Chief Executive of Enterprise North East Trust (Enterprise); a position he has held since November 2008. They will all share their entrepreneurial ups and downs and provide insights into how they got where they are today.

Jamie Lester says, “I started my own company at 24 with an initial £20,000 and two years and a half years later it was generating a turnover of over £1million. Being successful in business requires determination and an ability to adapt to changing situations. I will be sharing my entrepreneurial experiences with delegates and giving them my tips for success. I will also be giving people an insight into my time on the Apprentice, as one of the most challenging experiences I’ve ever had, it certainly pushed me to my limits and gave me the chance to explore all of my talents and skills.”

Gary McEwan, chief executive of Enterprise North East Trust comments, “The evening will provide the opportunity to listen to four experienced entrepreneurs; people who really have been there and done it. It’s an invaluable firsthand chance to learn from other people’s real life entrepreneurial experiences – the highs, the lows and the challenges which follow the momentous decision to go it alone and set up your own business.”

Organised by Enterprise North East Trust, the ‘Have You Got What It Takes To Be An Entrepreneur?’ is a free event which will take place on Tuesday 19 April 2011 at The Lecture Theatre, the Business School, The Robert Gordon University, Garthdee. The event will run from 6pm for 6.30pm until 8.30pm. Presentations from Jamie Lester, Martin Dickie and James Watt joint founders of BrewDog and Gary McEwan of Enterprise North East Trust will be followed by a 45 minute question and answer session.
