A fundraising ball sponsored by legal firm McGrigors raised £20,000 for Aberdeen’s RNLI lifeboat station.

More than 200 guests, including members of the port’s lifeboat crew, attended the Beach Ballroom function at which the inshore lifeboat, the James Bissett Simpson, was a popular attraction.

McGrigors partner Roger Connon said: "We are delighted to have been the principal sponsor of the 2011 Bon Accord Ball, raising a fantastic sum to allow the Aberdeen lifeboat station to continue its life saving efforts.

“As part of our Energy practice we are heavily involved with clients in the maritime sector and therefore very aware of the vital role which the RNLI plays in the North Sea and around our coasts.”

Margaret Farquhar, chair of the Aberdeen RNLI branch, thanked everyone involved, organisers, donors and guests. She said: “This is a quite magnificent result and fully justifies the hard work which went into its planning. Our very grateful thanks go to the many members of the city’s business community who bought tables, our other guests and also the donors of the numerous prizes.”
