Aberdeen Airport gearing up to “Celebrate”Aberdeen Airport has signed up to be part of one of the biggest charitable awareness–raising events in the city’s recent history. The airport Community Trust has pledged a donation to sponsor a local third sector organisation at the up-coming Celebrate Aberdeen parade. Taking place on Saturday 11 June 2011, Celebrate Aberdeen will see fellow organisations unite in a spectacular display of energy, song and dance to raise awareness of the good work being carried out by the city’s Third Sector.
The parade will set off in the morning, processing from the top of Union Street down to the Castlegate. Hundreds of third sector employees, volunteers and the beneficiaries of their services will be joined on the day by a host of street performers, musicians and local celebrities.
Members of the airport panel unanimously agreed to take part in the event, and has been paired with local group Apex Scotland - a specialist organisation that aim to get young people at risk, adults and ex-offenders into education and employment. The organisation works to tackle re-offending and deprivation while making communities safer.
Scot Allan is the local manager with Apex in Aberdeen. He said “We at Apex Scotland are absolutely delighted to be involved with the Celebrate Aberdeen event. We are even more excited that Aberdeen Airport, through the board of the Aberdeen Airport Community trust, has chosen Apex as the organisation they want to sponsor and support, not just for the event, but longer term too.
Sarah Campbell who chairs the Aberdeen Panel said “It is exciting to be involved in an event like this, which will be once in a lifetime opportunity for many local third sector groups.
“As an airport, and as a Community Panel, we are keen to engage with the community and forge lasting partnerships with organisations that we can help. This provides us with a great platform and also an opportunity to make a lasting link with Apex Scotland. Their work fits well with our charitable criteria, of supporting groups and projects with educational, environmental, or employment benefits. Look out for us at the parade! ”
Morven Mackenzie from Mackenzie PR is organising the event. She said “We’re really pleased to have Aberdeen Airport on board for the parade. We are hugely grateful to each of the 80 sponsors that have come on board so far to help make this event a reality. Aberdeen’s third sector is incredibly important as so many people in the region benefit from these organisations’ services. The parade will act as a platform to further raise people’s awareness of them and the good work they do.”
