Aberdeen Asset Management Recruits More Top Graduates than Ever

Three Aberdeen Students Secure Place on Top Graduate Scheme

Aberdeen Asset Management announced today that they have received more applications for next year’s graduate scheme than in any previous year. The company confirmed that the 2012 graduate scheme received 634 applicants, which is nearly a 38% increase on the previous year.

The rotational graduate programme, which has been running since 1998, has seen continued growth, but in recent years there has been a surge in popularity. With an increasing number of new graduates reporting difficulties in finding employment the competition for securing a place on a graduate scheme is fiercer than ever.

This year’s 634 applicants were whittled down to 12 stand out candidates, three of which come from Aberdeen and all of which have completed Aberdeen Asset Management’s internship scheme which gives students an opportunity to complete a 4 month placement in a key department within the company.

Emma Gilbert, one of this year’s successful candidates, from Aberdeen said, “After completing my internship with Aberdeen I was determined to secure my place on the graduate scheme. It is such a fantastic opportunity and a great company to be a part of and the scheme provides the opportunity to further the knowledge and experience gained from the internship.”

Kerry Christie, Global Head of HR commented “We have improved our graduate recruitment process by planning a greater presence both online and at career fairs, as we have realised over the years what an asset they are to the wider company. The increase in applicants to our graduate scheme is great news for us, because it means we have a bigger pool of talent to choose from. We have created more positions in recent years to reflect the fact that we are getting more applications from the best graduates. We have also streamlined the scheme, so applicants can choose which area of the business to specialise in. This means we have been able to accept candidates from a wide range of disciplines and many have gone on to be senior managers in the company.”

The Aberdeen Asset Management graduate scheme combines a rotational programme which introduces graduates to several areas of the business, and an ongoing training programme which aims to develop business skills as well as product knowledge.
