Aberdeen businessman to run London Marathon for Glencraft
A local entrepreneur is on track to raise £50,000 for an Aberdeen charity by running the London marathon later this month (April). Setting out to raise almost £2000 per mile, Bob Keiller, CEO of local oil services firm PSN, is running the race to raise money for Glencraft, the Aberdeen bed-making factory which employs blind and disabled workers.
Mr Keiller (47) has already raised over £49,000 and is now increasing his fundraising target to £100,000 in the hope of giving Glencraft’s £500,000 fundraising campaign a welcome boost. Training up to six times a week, he has been helped by friends and neighbours who have stepped forward as running companions. He said: “Anyone who knows me will realise that I am not a natural build for marathon-running but I am determined to do this to raise money for Glencraft. The charity closed its factory and showroom in November 2009 but, along with help from many others, we were able to reopen the business in April 2010. Most of the team at Glencraft are disabled and benefit hugely from the dignity and purpose that their work provides. Allowing Glencraft to close is not an option for any caring society. “I have plasters and painkillers at the ready as this is an extremely tough challenge but it is nothing compared to the difficulties faced by Glencraft employees on a day to day basis.” Anyone interested in sponsoring Bob can do so by visiting: http://www.justgiving.com/robert-keiller |
