Aberdeen City Heritage Trust to benefit from £7million funding announcement

Aberdeen City Heritage Trust, a charity established to care for the city’s historic built environment, is to receive £750,000 in grant funding, Culture Secretary Fiona Hyslop announced today [Monday February 6].

The money will help safeguard and enhance conservation areas and the historic environment of the Granite City for the next three years.

Douglas Campbell, Project Officer for the Trust, said: “This money will allow the Trust to continue carrying out the work it has been involved in since 2004. The Trust offers, on average, 40 grants a year, helping to repair and maintain Aberdeen’s historic buildings and structures found within the city’s numerous conservation areas. Trust funds have supported repair work carried out by over 70 local contractors helping to ensure that traditional craft skills are sustained and the local economy supported.”

Councillor Jennifer Stewart, a Director of the Aberdeen City Heritage Trust, added: “Aberdeen is a city rich in archaeology and architecture and it is essential that we maintain this to provide generations to come with a glimpse into our past. This funding announcement is very welcome and I am extremely excited to see the benefits it brings to the historic heart of the city.”

The Aberdeen City Heritage Trust was launched in 2004 and is a registered charity supported by Aberdeen City Council and Historic Scotland.
