Aberdeen Corporate Decathlon teams have a ball as Wood Group and PwC grab the top prizes!Wood Group and PwC were crowned champions of League 1 and League 2 respectively of the Aberdeen Corporate Decathlon 2011, at the activitymix Sports Ball sponsored by independent oil development and production company EnQuest PLC, held at AECC on Friday 28th October. After 10 closely fought events over the past year, CNR International came in close second place and GE Oil and Gas in third place in League 1. In League 2 TAQA were runners-up and Champion Technologies came in close third place.
This year the Aberdeen Sport Ball was sponsored by EnQuest PLC who have taken part in the Aberdeen Corporate Decathlon in League 2 this season and finished in a very respectable 10th place. David Heslop, UKCS General Manager quotes “This is the first year that EnQuest has participated in the Corporate Decathlon and I have been encouraged by both the dedication and effort displayed by my colleagues. The Sports Ball marks the end of a fantastic year for all companies involved and we are delighted to be able to support this occasion.”
Before the main event, teams were treated to a drinks reception sponsored by Lloyd’s Register, to reward them for their hard work throughout the season!
The results of the Personal Health Challenge were also announced during the ball, which had been kept a secret up until that point! In League 1, BP were crowned team winners and in League 2 Hunting took first place after some very impressive results.
There were also individual awards for the most improved male and female players from each league. In League 1 Heather Weaver from CNR International and Eric Anunda from Shell Team 1 came out on top and in League 2, Adele Howie from Apache and Haydn Cooper from DOF Subsea were the winners after some remarkable performances.
Tiffany Sheppard, Tournament Manager of activitymix, said: “The Sports Ball provides a fitting finale to a fantastic season, in which 32 of Aberdeen’s foremost companies have gone the extra mile to encourage employee engagement through participation in the Corporate Decathlon. Results in all the categories were very close.”
The Captain of the Year Awards were also announced after being carefully chosen after a nomination process by their peers and reviewed by a judging panel. The Decathlon Captains drive the Corporate Decathlon internally and with their promotion and organisational skills encourage other employees to engage through sport.
Adele Wilson, regional manager of activitymix, says: “The Captain of the Year award ensures that senior staff within each organisation realise the contribution that the corporate decathlon captain makes throughout the year in an area that is often not their speciality.”
In League 1, Captain of the Year was awarded to Allison Thomson from Lloyd’s Register for coming out of her comfort zone and being so dedicated, passionate and hardworking and going over and above in everything to do with the events to make it a success for all staff from Lloyd’s Register. In League 2, Jennifer Wood from Hunting was chosen due to her enthusiasm and ability to motivate and support others whilst actively promoting the Corporate Decathlon to management and staff within Hunting.
CLAN, activitymix’s charity partner for the year, have managed to raise over £30,000 throughout the season due to the generosity of all our teams! A raffle was held on the night, with donations made by Malmaison, Ballater Golf Club and Norwood Hall Hotel to name but a few, which totalled over £4,000 for the activitymix foundation which donates the money back to grass root sports clubs.
The Sports Ball marked the end of the largest Corporate Decathlon that activitymix has ever ran and it is only set to get bigger next season, commencing in February 2012!
