Aberdeen Junior Chamber Member Wins National Public Speaking Prize

Junior Chamber International (JCI) member Euan Gillies has been crowned the Scottish National Public Speaking Champion and will go on to compete in the European Championships next month.

Euan beat the competition from Edinburgh at the JCI Scottish Conference held in Aberdeen, and he is due to compete at the JCI Europe Public Speaking Championships in Tarragona, Spain early next month. Euan has been a member of JCI for over six months and found a hidden talent when he began entering public speaking contests only weeks after joining. He had little time to practice however, as Euan was also on the Conference Management Committee.

Euan’s public speaking skills have also paved the way for a career in communications. He recently completed his MSc in Corporate Communications and Public Affairs at RGU; and following a three month internship in Aberdeen with Communications Consultancy, The Fifth Business, he was offered a permanent position as a Communications Coordinator and Trainee Consultant in London.

Euan relocated to The Fifth Business’ London office at the weekend to take up his new position as part of the London team and is looking forward to starting a new career in the capital city. He said: “It’s great to be given this opportunity to work in the heart of London’s creative district and with some of the UK’s leading companies as part of The Fifth Business.”

CEO, Enda Logan is delighted that Euan has joined the team: “We recruited several prize-winning students from the RGU under-graduate and post-graduate programmes last year – getting Euan on-board with his superb public-speaking skills is a real bonus. We are very proud to field another Aberdeen graduate to help us expand our national and international business.”
