Aberdeen Pupils delighted to be mascots for Rugby Heroes

Two Primary 7 pupils from Robert Gordon’s College were chosen as mascots for Chris Cusiter and Ruaridh Jackson at the World Cup squad selection announcement earlier this week.

Pupils Joe Mills and Henry Tawse travelled to the National Museum on Monday 22nd August 2011 to support their Rugby heroes.

Former Robert Gordon’s College pupils Chris Cusiter (Class of 00) and Ruaridh Jackson (Class of 06) are heading off to the Rugby World Cup 2011 in New Zealand and had the option of choosing a club or school mascot to be present with them at the announcement. The Aberdeen boys have been training hard to fight for their place in the Scotland squad and are now preparing for their chance at the World Cup.

Mr Richie Anderson, Head of Sport said, “It was a great moment to see 2 of our Primary 7 rugby players show their own support and how proud Robert Gordon’s College are of our former pupils representing our country on the world stage. The Scotland squad has an exciting opportunity and has shown recently real depth and quality”.

Robert Gordon’s College field 14 Rugby teams every Saturday from primary 6 up to 1st XV. Current pupils Cameron Turner and Duncan Campbell in S6 represented Scotland U-18 last week against Newcastle Falcons.

Mr Hugh Ouston, Head of College adds, “We have passed on our Congratulations to both Chris and Ruaridh who have each had impressive sporting careers. Joe and Henry had an enjoyable time with Ruaridh and Chris and were also pleased to see Kelly Brown made the squad following his visit to the Primary 7s last November. Opportunities in sport are vast at Gordon’s and pupils can perform to the highest level thanks to first class coaching and the stimulus of able and motivated friends”.
