Aberdonians Help Shape City Drug Services

Over 100 Aberdeen residents and professionals attended an event at the Cowdray Hall on Tuesday (19th April) to have their say about the future of city drug services.

The “Come and Help Shape the Future of Drug Services in Aberdeen” event, which was hosted by ACVO (Aberdeen Council of Voluntary Organisations) in conjunction with the Aberdeen City Alcohol and Drugs Partnership (ADP), was an opportunity for citizens to discuss how best to tackle the city’s drugs misuse issues. Among the attendees were professionals from Aberdeen’s drugs services along with service users and family members who were all able to speak from their own personal experience and give informed opinion about effective forms of support.

ACVO Chief Executive, Ian Paterson said, “I was particularly pleased to see the enthusiastic cross section of the community who attended the event. The group discussions allowed those who were present to hear of others’ experiences in relation to drugs, in particular their affect upon individuals, families and organisations, and will assist those who are considering which services to commission from 1st April 2012 to make fully informed decisions.”

Aberdeen City ADP is now collating the attendees’ comments and will use these to help shape the city’s revised Drugs Strategy.
