Absoft celebrates 20th anniversary with major turnover, profit and staffing boostLeading independent SAP consultancy Absoft has boosted its turnover and pool of expert staff by more than 20% on the back of significant growth across its key markets as it marks its 20th anniversary. Turnover at the Aberdeen-headquartered business software specialist rose by 23% in the last financial year, from £4.9million to £6.1million, supported by a 25% increase in staff as it expands its work across the energy and higher education sectors. Pre-tax profits jumped by more than 70% to £275,000 at Absoft, which was founded in 1991 and has recently increased its office space at Aberdeen Science and Technology Park as it continues to build on its team of 78 staff. Activity and turnover in oil and gas rose by 21% as Absoft, which supplies SAP software, consultancy and support services, attracted seven new clients, while its work in other sectors grew 29% in 2010-11. Absoft is now targeting further growth with a strategic move into Norway and increased work in the Americas, through an expanding oil and gas industry client portfolio which includes major operators and oilfield service companies. The company's work across the higher education sector also continues to grow rapidly, having delivered shared service HR systems to the University of Abertay Dundee and secured six new customers. Ian Mechie, managing director, says: "We have had a superb year in terms of growth across our main markets, securing record turnover and a strong rise in profitability as we celebrate our 20th anniversary. "In oil and gas we are targeting an increase in turnover in excess of £5million for the first time, with non-oil and gas disciplines also aimed at more than £3million. Our primary aim is to continue the trend of increased activity as the economy continues to recover. "In the past year our oil and gas team has worked extensively across the UKCS, Scandinavia and South America, while we have also secured contracts with higher education establishments across Scotland and England." Absoft's investment in its specialist consultancy pool has gathered pace following the addition to its senior management team of head of professional services Eric McAdam, along with five graduate consultants in 2010-11. "Investment in our own systems and infrastructure has been progressed to ensure we can continue to provide the highest level of service as our client portfolio has grown in all areas," adds Mechie. "We are actively seeking further new talent to support our future growth plans and have added two consultants and five further graduates to our team already this year." 203 views
