ACE Winches’ new Engineering Graduate Training Scheme on the path towards IMechE accreditation

ACE Winches has launched its new Engineering Graduate Training and Development Scheme, which is currently on the path towards receiving accreditation by the Institute of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE).

This Monitored Professional Development Scheme (MPDS) is a structured programme which provides recently qualified engineers with the training and development required to meet the competencies within the UK Standard for Professional Engineering Competence (UK-SPEC). The UK-SPEC, issued by the Engineering Council, is used to assess engineers seeking professional registration as Chartered Engineers. The ACE Winches scheme comprises two years of initial professional development, consisting of a rotational period where the Engineering Graduate will undertake work within a number of departments, followed by two years of increasing responsibility where the Graduate will move into a full time assignment within the Engineering Department. At the end of the four years, the Graduate should be in a position to apply for Chartered Engineer status, providing all required competencies of the UK-SPEC have been met.

At the recent launch of the scheme, Callum Livingstone, the company’s first Engineering Graduate to enter the new programme, was welcomed into the fold at ACE’s Towie Barclay Works base by: Engineering Support Operations Manager, Gary Lenton; HR Manager, Shirley Butcher; and Lead Engineer, George French, who will be taking on the role of Mentor throughout the scheme. Reflecting the company’s commitment to employee development, Gary stated: “This scheme aims to provide a stream of engineers that are capable of applying theoretical knowledge and understanding of our technology, business needs and industry in order to meet our customers’ requirements and to contribute to the success and future of the business. The Engineering Graduates will undertake on-the- job training and internal courses to gain an appreciation of commercial and contractual issues, and engineering processes, terms and practices used within ACE Winches, which, in turn, will further increase their engineering and commercial awareness.” Shirley added: “At ACE Winches, we are dedicated to training and development in order to build and maintain a talent pipeline for the future and this Graduate Scheme embodies this commitment. Investing in, and developing, employees and improving the skills and competence of the workforce allows for effective succession planning, increasing the availability of experienced and capable employees that are prepared to assume new roles and positions in this rapidly growing company.”
