Local business community raises £55,000 for people with disabilities
Scottish provider of social care, Cornerstone, raised £55,000 (net) at their annual fundraising dinner last week (26 April) at The Marcliffe in Aberdeen. The event, sponsored by BP, Optima and Technip UK Ltd was a huge success, kick starting the charity's ‘Home Is Where the Heart Is’ fundraising campaign, which will support the build of a social housing development in Portlethen for six of the people they support.

Arts & Business Collide in Space in an Exciting Collaboration marking the UK’s first Cubesat Spaceship Mission
With support from Arts & Business Scotland, Glass artist Siobhan Healy has created an artwork referencing the exciting development of the UK’s first cubesat spaceship mission. The inspiring spacecraft that will take part in the mission later this year has been designed by Glasgow business, Clyde Space, who sponsored the artist to create an art piece around it. The fantastical art piece, which has been made out of parts used to construct real spacecraft, including space solar panels, will be exhibited in the Edinburgh International Science Festival from 30 March before travelling to London and New York.

Arts & Business figures for 2010-11 reveal significant increase in private investment in culture in Scotland in spite of recession
• Amount of private giving to culture in Scotland rose to £43 million in 2010/11
• Percentage increase of 3.3% in Scotland was slightly below the UK average of 4%
• Scottish business investment was £9.9 million - a 4% decrease but this was less than the UK average fall of 6%
• Individual Philanthropy rose significantly - up 14% to £21.9 million
• Although investment in Scotland by Trusts and Foundations was down 7% from the previous year, the figure is still significantly higher than in the years prior to 2009
