AKE Raises Yemen Risk Rating

LONDON – AKE has raised the security risk rating for Yemen on its intelligence website Global IntAKE (http://www.globalintake.com). The country rating has been increased to AKE42 (Widespread Militancy) following a serious and prolonged deterioration in the security environment throughout the country.

Fighting has been most intense in the capital Sanaa over recent days, with government troops clashing with fighters from the powerful Hashed tribal confederation. A number of government buildings have been captured by rebel fighters and continued clashes are expected as government forces attempt to regain ground.

Clashes involving suspected al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula (AQAP) fighters are also continuing in the town of Zinjibar in southern Abyan province. AKE expects further fighting in other towns and cities throughout the country.

A number of foreign embassies have evacuated non-essential staff and personnel still operating are advised to review the need to remain in the country.

Further details on AKE's security risk ratings can be viewed on the AKE world risk map on Global IntAKE (http://www.globalintake.com/world_risk_map.php?political=2).
