Aker Qserv Sponsors Mackie Mini’s 10th Annual Rugby Tournament

Over 750 children will descend on Stonehaven this weekend (Saturday 7th May 2011) for the Mackie Mini's 10th Annual Rugby Tournament.

The event brings together some of the youngest sporting talent from throughout the east of Scotland, all keen to prove they have what it takes to be the next Scottish rugby star. Event sponsors Aker Qserv have provided the vital funding towards the 2011 tournament including the printing of event programmes to be sold on the day.

Now officially recognised as the largest mini rugby tournament in the north east of Scotland, the event will see 50 teams of children aged between 6 and 13, represent 11 rugby clubs to compete for the 2011 title.

Ciaran Dreelan, Director of Aker Qserv says, “We are delighted to be supporting such a popular local sporting event. The children have been training hard and are really excited about taking part and I’m sure the tournament will unearth some real future rugby stars. The Mini tournament gives young boys and girls the chance to showcase their skills playing against their local rivals. The tournament is a great way to encourage children from a young age to be active and demonstrate fair game and sportsmanship. I’m sure it will be a fun day out for the entire family and everyone is encouraged to come along to support the youngsters.

The first match of the day kicks off 10.30am between Mackie Reds and Aberdeen Grammar before 16 Micro teams compete to qualify for the Micro tournament match final at 1pm. 32 older teams will battle it out on the pitch, with the top 2 teams in each age group qualifying for the shield competition and the remaining teams entering the plate competition kicking off from 2:30pm.

John Barclay of the Glasgow Warriors and Scotland International will be at the pitch side to have photographs taken, sign programmes and offer tips to the players and for the first time this year, Kirkhill Primary school in Aberdeen will be taking part for fun tag rugby with fellow local clubs.
