ALAN BRAZIL TO STAR AT BEFRIEND A CHILD’S BIG KIDS SPORTSMAN’S DINNER
Former Manchester Utd and Scotland striker Alan Brazil is to be the star attraction at a fundraising Sportsman’s Dinner organised by local children’s charity, Befriend A Child, later this year. Brazil, who also played for Ipswich Town and Tottenham Hotspur during his professional career and is now the host of the popular Alan Brazil Breakfast Show on national radio station, Talk Sport, will be joined on the evening by renowned after-dinner speaker, Bob ‘The Cat’ Bevan and well-known local compere, Ian Thain.
The Big Kids Sportsman’s Dinner will take place at the Douglas Hotel, on Market Street, from 7pm on Friday, September 02. Tickets, priced £50 per person are available now, with tables of ten priced at £500.
Meanwhile, the charity was recently presented with more than £6,000 raised at a dinner to honour Scotland’s Greatest Ever Football Team, held in Aberdeen at the end of March and attended by legends such as Denis Law and Jim Leighton.
Harvey Smith of event organiser, h-events said: “We were absolutely delighted to be able to assist the most worthy of charities. Befriend A Child do an amazing job and the fact that their efforts are directed locally is very important to us. I hope in some small way we have contributed to the success they richly deserve.”
Karen Farquhar, Chief Executive of Befriend A Child, added: “We are so grateful to Harvey and his team for this generous donation. The Scotland’s Greatest Ever Football Team gala dinner was a fantastic event, which was very well-supported by local sports enthusiasts, and we are hopeful that our own Big Kids Sportsman’s Dinner will prove equally as popular and successful.”
Established in 1975, Befriend A Child is Scotland's oldest befriending service for disadvantaged children. Working with social workers, care homes, health visitors, and other charities, Befriend A Child supports children aged 4-16 and continues to work with them up until the age of 18, if required.
The scheme became a registered charity in 1991 and in 2010 worked with more than 170 children in Aberdeen City - its largest number to date.
Tickets are also selling fast for Befriend A Child’s fifth annual Big Kid’s Ball, which will take place at Ardoe House Hotel on Friday, February 24, 2012.
This year’s event attracted more than 400 guests, with £32,000 raised on the night, and hopes are high of surpassing this next year. Tickets are priced at £55 each, with tables of ten for £550.
