Apply Altra launch creates 50 new oil and gas jobs

A change in ownership at Aberdeen oil and gas consultants Altra Energy has resulted in expansion plans that will see its workforce double over the next year.

The new company, which will be called Apply Altra, is being launched tomorrow (Thursday 26 May 2011) following a take over of Altra Energy by Norwegian engineering firm Apply Sorco. Apply Altra intends to increase its workforce from 50 to 100, while firmly establishing itself as a centre of excellence within the Apply group for process engineering and general front end engineering and design (FEED).

The recruitment of the new staff will be phased in over a period of 12 months as part of a long-term strategy to allow Apply Altra to grow at a steady pace.

Agnar Kongshaug, who has lead Apply Sorco’s FEED and Design Business Unit, will head up the new company in the position of managing director. Mr Kongshaug says that Apply Altra will continue to offer the responsive, focused and cost effective engineering services which have been the cornerstone of Altra Energy over the last two decades.

“Apply Altra is a local company, managed in Aberdeen, and will grow to a substantial size. Apply Altra is not set up to act as a supplier resource to Norway, or as a place to push Norwegian products, but where possible Apply Altra will take advantage of the competence and capacity within the other Apply companies.

“The Altra name is important and the local focus is important. Operations support with focus on process and safety as well as the other engineering disciplines is a focal point of the business, but we also want Apply Altra to become a centre of excellence for early phase studies and FEEDs.”

Apply Altra’s engineering capacity will be supported in the short term by resources from Apply Sorco in Stavanger.

The Apply group has a total of 2,000 employees across Europe, mainly in the oil and gas industry. It has an operational presence in Bergen and Krakow in addition to its headquarters in Stavanger. The acquisition is seen as an important step in the Apply group’s growth strategy to develop and maintain a base of expertise in Aberdeen.

To mark the takeover and change of name, Apply Altra will be hosting a reception for clients at its offices in Union Plaza in Aberdeen on Thursday May 26 2011. Guests will celebrate the new partnership with a selection of local and Norwegian beverages and food, with entertainment from Rat Pack singer Billy Main.

Apply Altra is based in Union Plaza in Aberdeen. Further information can be found at www.applyaltra.com and can be contacted on 01224 652200 or by emailing info@altra-energy.com.
