Architect Firm has Designs on AberdeenAn Aberdeen architect has teamed up with a successful central belt practice to launch the business into the North-east. Donald Coutts, who has more than 30 years experience in architecture in the industrial and construction industry, will manage BMJ Architects new office in Aberdeen’s west end.
The company, which has 70 members of staff and offices in Glasgow, Belfast and London, is expanding into the North-east to cope with increased commercial business in the area.
BMJ, which will soon celebrate its 100th anniversary, was recently appointed as suppliers for the North Territory Hub with the Alba Community Partnerships.
The Hub programme is part of the Scottish Futures Trust and is a national initiative which will bring significant change to the methods used by public sector organisations when implementing their construction and maintenance projects.
Under this joint initiative a supply chain of contractors, designers and consultants has been created and it will revolutionise the way Scotland’s public bodies plan new facilities and deliver their services.
The hub initiative brings together local public sector organisations to increase joint working and the shared delivery of sustainable community buildings. North Territory hub is the second hub territory to move into procurement and expects to deliver projects with an estimated value of £435 million over the next 10 years.
Senior Director of BMJ Architects, Graham Stuart, said: “Launching into Aberdeen is a big step for BMJ Architects and ensures we are well placed to meet the demands of new contracts and clients in the North of Scotland. We have no doubt that Donald’s wealth of knowledge and experience will be invaluable and will help the business to succeed in establishing a presence in the area and ensure we can continue to secure further contracts in the public sector and commercial markets.”
Donald Coutts said: “BMJ Architects are committed to delivering high quality sustainable design solutions whilst meeting commercial budget. Securing an office in Aberdeen will allow us to provide that professional service that exceeds client expectations.”
There is a team of four based at the Aberdeen office with longterm plans to increase numbers to 12 employees in the next three to five years. 347 views
