AREG focus on health & safety in offshore renewablesTwo energy experts underlined the importance of health and safety standards for offshore renewables at an Aberdeen Renewable Energy Group (AREG) event yesterday. (Tuesday, June 21, 2011) Guest speakers Colin Connor, head of the Health and Safety Executive’s Energy Unit, and Tim Ingram, UK HSEQ director at Wood Group PSN, addressed more than 50 AREG members at the Aberdeen event, which is being held in association with DOF Energy.
Mr Connor and Mr Ingram gave an insight into health and safety practices and standards for the offshore renewables sector and draw parallels with the oil and gas industry.
AREG’s chief operating officer, Morag McCorkindale, said: “Health and safety is vital to the successful delivery of renewables, particularly as the sector continues to gain significant pace. Delivery of the Round 3 offshore wind programme is rapidly approaching whilst progression of projects such as the European Offshore Wind Deployment Centre (EOWDC) are developing considerably.
“AREG is therefore providing an important platform for members to learn more about health and safety issues that need to be addressed as a matter of urgency.”
AREG is a not-for-profit organisation which is actively working to ensure that Aberdeen capitalises on the inventiveness and enterprise that has established it as the oil capital of Europe. AREG aims to position the region as a global energy hub with a reputation for delivering renewable energy innovation.
AREG’s impressive membership and range of energy expertise encompasses every sector of renewable energy including onshore and offshore wind, marine and hydro, bio, solar, geothermal energy and hydrogen and fuel cells.
