Banff and Buchan College New Campus prepares to Welcome its First Students

As final exam results are distributed, those who have chosen to study at Banff and Buchan College are set to be the first to experience the College’s £23m redevelopment.

Staff at the College have begun to move out of the temporary accommodation, which has been their home for the past year, and into the newly refurbished building at the main campus at Henderson Road, Fraserburgh.

Project Sponsor Duncan Abernethy said “The first stage of the project is now complete and the new central atrium is ready for those students who will undertake courses in academic session 2011-12. They will arrive into the College via a new glass entrance into a spacious central atrium with plenty of flexible learning and social space; a new library and learning resource centre; upgraded refectory and a new coffee bar on the mezzanine level. The College will also have a new commercial entrance where members of the public can enter to access the College’s restaurant, hairdressing and beauty services.

“ Throughout the remainder of 2011 renovations will continue as classrooms are refurbished to a high standard and modern specification. We are delighted with the quality of workmanship that Robertson Construction has maintained throughout the project and feedback from students’ on the modern furniture and finishing touches has been great.”

The work of dismantling and removing the temporary accommodation will commence shortly afterwards and the College are currently discussing options for the 4 temporary accommodation buildings.

Linda Hope, External Affairs Manager said “Our refurbished building with all its new facilities makes Banff and Buchan College a fantastic location for our learners. The new building is bright, modern and has much more flexible space for learners to work, study and also mix with others. This will make the learning experience more enjoyable for al l who study here. In addition, our central atrium will allow us to hold conferences, events and engage further with the local business community. We are looking forward to completing the College 2012 redevelopment project in early 2012”
