BEFRIEND A CHILD’S FIRST EVER BLUE AND YELLOW DAY SET FOR NEXT MONTHSupporters of Aberdeen-based Befriend A Child will be undertaking a range of activities with a blue and yellow theme next month to mark the charity’s first-ever official awareness raising day. Befriend A Child Blue and Yellow Day – named in recognition of the charity’s corporate colours – will take place on Wednesday, June 08, with the aim of increasing awareness of the organisation and the vital work it does with disadvantaged children in Aberdeen City.
A host of local companies have already signed-up to support the event – including GE Oil and Gas, Prospect, Ellees Hair Design, Mackenzie PR and Cartridge World – with activities already planned including a Guess the Sweets in a Jar competition and a Dress in Blue Day.
A number of local schools will also be participating on the day, which Befriend A Child hopes will become a popular annual event.
Befriend A Child’s Chief Executive, Karen Farquhar, said: “We are delighted with the support that the local business community has shown for our first ever Blue and Yellow Day and it has been great to hear of all the fun, creative things that people have planned for the day.
“It is our intention that Blue and Yellow Day will become an annual event as it is incredibly important that we continue to increase awareness of Befriend A Child in and around Aberdeen to enable us to keep on raising the funds necessary to support the youngsters that we work with in the City.”
While Blue and Yellow Day is a new addition to Befriend A Child’s calendar of events, plans are also well underway for one of its more-established annual fundraisers.
The charity’s fifth Big Kid’s Ball will take place at Ardoe House Hotel on Friday, February 24, 2012. This year’s event attracted more than 400 guests with £32,000 raised on the night and hopes are high of surpassing this next year. Tickets are available now, priced at £55 each, with tables of ten for £550.
Established in 1975, Befriend A Child is Scotland's oldest befriending service for disadvantaged children. Working with social workers, care homes, health visitors, and other charities, Befriend A Child supports children aged 5-12 and continues to work with them up until the age of 18, if required.
The scheme became a registered charity in 1991 and in 2010 worked with more than 170 children in Aberdeen City - its largest number to date.
