AGENCY DIRECTIVE WEBINAR: A reminder that, on the afternoon of Tuesday 6 September, we are running a webinar for members to help with the detail of the EU Agency Workers Directive, which comes into force on 1 October. The webinar will be led by Julian Yew, Employment Partner in the Hotels and Leisure Group at Penningtons solicitors. Advance paperwork will be available and there will be an opportunity for those participating to ask Julian Yew questions online. If you would like to take part in the webinar and find out all you need to know about this important new EU legislation, please send your details (name, company and email) to maria.man@bha.org.uk We will then send out details of how to access the webinar.

LETTER TO No 10: Chief Executive Ufi Ibrahim has written to the Prime Minister, David Cameron MP, setting out the areas where action still needs to be taken a year after his major speech on tourism. We attached a score sheet, showing good progress in appointing a Tourism Minister who understands the industry, partial progress on VAT, visas, Red Tape, Destination Management Organisations, and encouraging more investment, but lack of progress on Air Passenger Duty, Local Enterprise Partnerships, Regional Growth Fund, ethnic chefs, private sector bids for public contracts and introducing a cross Whitehall committee for hospitality and tourism.

SCOTLAND- IMPORTANT LEGAL REMINDER: From 1 October, although the law remains that you are not allowed to sell or permit alcohol to be consumed by under 18’s, there is an important change: if you are selling or supplying alcohol to anyone who appears to be under 25, you must ask them their age, see the relevant identification (passport, photocard driving licence or PASS card) and be able to prove that you have done this. Go to <http://www.lindsays.co.uk/news-and-features/news/item/challenge-25--are-you-ready/> for the details.
