BiD Attracts Interest in Board Positions

Aberdeen Business Improvement District (BiD) has received 20 nominations for its new Board of Directors.

The newly formed organisation, which is leading on initiatives to improve Aberdeen’s city centre, will appoint 11 new directors following a secret ballot at its EGM at 6pm today (29th of November).

An overwhelming number of representatives from across the retail, hospitality and leisure as well as the office and financial sectors have been nominated for election and will be voted onto the board by fellow BiD members.

BiD chairman, John Michie, said: “One of our key priorities is to establish a board that will drive the company forward, ensuring it reflects the views and issues of the sectors represented within the BiD footprint.

“In the two months since the BiD’s establishment we have already pioneered several schemes to improve and drive more footfall into the city centre including the enhanced Winter Festival and the clean-up operation of Union Street.

“Following the inception of the new board, we will continue to communicate effectively with our membership and spear-head the initiatives which will make our city centre cleaner, safer, more vibrant and attractive.”

Following the ballot, Gerry Brough - project director, economic and business development at Aberdeen City Council, will share his vision for the future of scheme.

Interim chief executive, Heather Farquhar, will deliver a progress update - including details of the BiD’s involvement in improving this year’s Winter Festival and its building maintenance project of Union Street.

Of the eleven board directors appointed five will represent the retail sector, three the hospitality and leisure sectors with the remaining three representing the office and financial sectors.
