BIG, BIGGER, BIGGEST --- THE STORY OF ALL-ENERGY 2011

All-Energy 2011, the UK’s largest renewable energy exhibition and conference opens in just two days on 18-19 May. Held annually at the Aberdeen Exhibition and Conference Centre in Aberdeen, it is a true ‘acorn to oak tree’ story. And that ’oak’ has grown dramatically, encompassing a host of additional features.

First held in 2001, when it attracted fewer than 50 exhibiting companies and total attendance of 350 – All-Energy now has over 580 exhibiting companies from 20 countries taking part. The conference has more than 280 speakers in nearly 50 sessions, and includes a welcome message from Alex Salmond MSP, the First Minister of Scotland. A Civic Reception, Giant Networking Evening, a Careers Fair, a programme of associated events, Education Day for teachers, and four Technical Tours transform the All-Energy exhibition and conference into a highly memorable and all-embracing event. Admission to all elements of All-Energy 2011 is free of charge to all with a business/ professional interest in renewable energy.

“Registrations have been coming in thick and fast for this year’s show and we certainly look set to surpass our record breaking attendance figure of 7,000 from 55 countries achieved last year,” says Event Director, Jamie Thompson of Media Generation Events. “This is a time of huge expansion for the renewables industry, and All-Energy reflects that expansion. This year’s exhibition is 25% larger than last year’s, with exhibitors filling over 6,600m2 net of space.”

All-Energy embraces all sources of renewable energy – wind (both on- and offshore), all forms of bioenergy, wave and tidal, hydropower, hydrogen and fuel cells, geothermal, microgeneration, and renewable heat. The conference also features sessions on carbon capture and storage, nuclear power, and maximising CO2 reduction in the water sector; as well as the myriad opportunities and challenges facing the industry such as sustainable transport; power storage; finance and funding; academic research; health and safety; skills; public perception; diversification. There are also sessions for specific groups such as communities, and farmers.

“This is a busy week for Scotland’s First Minister, so we are delighted that he has found time to record a video message for our opening plenary session,” says All-Energy’s project director in charge of the conference, Judith Patten. “Other speakers in this session, chaired by Andrew Jamieson, Regulation and Markets Director, ScottishPower Renewables and Chairman of RenewableUK, are the Lord Provost of the City of Aberdeen; Charles Hendry MP, Minister of State for Energy, DECC; Sir Ian Wood, Chairman, Wood Group; Duncan Botting, Business Innovation and Growth Director – Power, Industry and Utilities, Parsons Brinckerhoff; and Niall Stuart, Chief Executive, Scottish Renewables – a marvellous panel for getting us off to a flying start!

“The conference then splits into seven parallel sessions and now features some late, and highly topical additions to the programme, including ‘How a CCS project in Yorkshire can breathe new life in to North Sea oil fields’ to be delivered by Jane Paxman, Director Policy and Communications, 2Co Energy- who acquired Powerfuel Power Ltd and its Carbon Capture and Storage Hatfield project just a week ago; and ‘Whisky and high performance biomass steam boiler CHP plant” being delivered by Gert Lindgreen of Denmark’s Aalborg Energie Technik.”

During the course of the two days Stuart Cook of Ofgem, Dr Hubert Keiber of Siemens Building Automation, Kevin Myers of the Health and Safety Executive, Dr Kerry Thomas, of the University of Oxford Institute of Advanced Technologies, Dr David Clubb of the European Environment Agency, and Simon Bourne of ITM will be delivering keynote addresses in the multi-stream conference.
