Brewing up a campaignOver the past few months we have been working hard to refresh the Chamber – to borrow slightly the words of a beer ad – refreshing the parts that others can’t reach. As part of that we’ll be taking a much more proactive role in terms of campaigning and will soon be launching a major campaign which will focus on transport. Tackling the bête noir of business and the travelling public alike, our campaign will support national priorities such the need for High Speed Rail to Scotland and major local priorities such as the extension of the dualling of the A90 north of Aberdeen. However we also want to focus on highlighting some of the more specific local problems which cause us grief on a daily basis, so as a starter for 10 and as a forerunner to the launch of the campaign, we’d like you to flag up what you see as some of the pinch points around the city and shire and what you think might bring about an improvement. It could be something relatively minor which you think could achieve a result – changing traffic light sequences; improvements to the lane layout at a junction; changing the scheduling of public transport; moving a bus stop; improving customer service on the railways; changes in working hours and we’ll consider building it into our campaign. In the Chinese calendar, 2010 is the Year of the Tiger – a time for business to sharpen its claws and to start biting back. As the Tibetan saying goes: ‘It is better to spend a single day as a tiger than a thousand years as a sheep’. Contact: Kate Yuill, Policy & Communications Manager – kate.yuill@agcc.co.uk
