Bridge of Bervie to be improved by strengthening scheme – road to be closedAberdeenshire Council will begin a project to strengthen the Bridge of Bervie next week. Strengthening works on the two-span masonry arch bridge, near Glenbervie, will begin on Monday, August 1 and will run for ten weeks.
The scheme includes the removal of surfacing, the construction of fibre-reinforced concrete slabs to be placed above the existing masonry arches and waterproofing to prevent further water ingress to the arch barrel.
Damaged and missing areas of masonry in the arch barrel will also be repaired and replaced.
Further work will be carried out to consolidate bridge wingwalls and river training walls, with the whole project expected to cost around £155,000.
A road closure will be necessary and the proposed diversion route is: via the C19K at Bridge of Bervie to the U75K at Glenbervie Church, to the C1K near Brae Schoolhouse, to the C19K at Burnmouth Bridge, North of Auchenblae to Auchtochter.
Head of Roads and Landscape Services Philip McKay said: “We apologise for any inconvenience, but it has become necessary to carry out repairs and upgrade the Bridge of Bervie, and with work due to start in August we aim to complete the project by mid October.” 109 views
