BrightSpark Shares Learning’sFormer Robert Gordon’s College pupil Scott Gammie, 17, is currently on a paid placement scheme with business advisory firm Deloitte, and recently returned to school to share his knowledge and experience gained while on his placement with S4 and S5 Accounting pupils. Deloitte offers a Scholar Scheme across the UK which is a 7 month paid placement that is available to students prior to starting University. The firm has several other schemes aimed at recruiting young, talented students into the firm including the BrightStart scheme, which allows students, after Highers, to start their career at Deloitte and become professionally qualified 5 years later.
Returning to Robert Gordon’s college, Scott talked about his experiences with Deloitte so far, what the scheme involves and the subjects that would be helpful to study in order to qualify.
Scott, who is from Maryculter, left college earlier this year and was placed in the Deloitte office in Aberdeen gaining hands-on experience, and has also received a bursary to help him to travel or volunteer abroad after his 7 month placement.
Head of Business Studies, Miss Caroline Boyd, says: “Scott has a keen interest in accountancy and has worked hard to qualify for the scheme. Since completing his Highers, he is enjoying the experience of learning how the theories learnt so far are put into practice in the business world. We enjoyed having him back to the department for the day”.
Robert Gordon’s College have over 190 pupils studying Business Education subjects with many pupils going on to study business related courses at University. The Business Studies and Economics department have seen great success in recent years with former pupils Mark Diamond achieving one of nine pupils in the UK achieving a D1 (highest possible level) in his Cambridge Pre-U Economics exam, Alexander Taylor who achieved the highest mark in Scotland for Higher Business Management Studies (97%) last year and current pupil Sam Povey (S5) who is regularly highly commended for economics essays in national competitions.
