Brodies announces Aberdeen expansion with DWS brought on boardLaw firm Brodies LLP today announces that it is taking over Aberdeen-based legal practice Davies Wood Summers LLP (DWS). The deal, signed on 12th April, will see full integration of the two firms effective from 2nd May, with DWS staff moving into Brodies' newly opened Aberdeen office at 23 Carden Place. Brodies also announces the appointment of Aberdeen based litigator and Solicitor Advocate Malcolm Mackay as a partner in its shipping and transport team. With particular expertise in high-value cases involving the oil and gas, shipping and fishing industries, Mackay acts for owners, operators, contractors and marine insurers in the investigation and handling claims, from alleged health and safety breaches to oil spills. The new additions see Brodies' already strong Aberdeen based team now expanded to 23, in less than two months. Bill Drummond, managing partner of Brodies, said: "Brodies has worked closely with Davies Wood Summers for some 17 years, and we have provided specialised advice and support to them in several areas. It has a strong reputation in the region for its client service, its professionalism, its experience in litigation, corporate and commercial, property, and private client, and its detailed knowledge of specialist areas important to Aberdeen and the North East such as maritime and fishing law. The match with Brodies is a very good one on all levels. "I am also delighted to welcome Malcolm Mackay on board. A first-rate litigator, Malcolm is well known and respected in Aberdeen and across Scotland for his client-focused approach and work in the offshore sector. Within a few weeks of opening in Aberdeen we have made good progress with our commitment to make significant resources and legal talent locally available to regional businesses and individuals in all areas important to them – it's part of our wider strategy to ensure that all our clients have, at their disposal, the most comprehensive top-tier legal skills available in Scotland." Gillian Summers, corporate partner at DWS, said: "These are exciting and challenging times for the legal sector; the prospect of joining forces with Brodies and working with great new colleagues offers real opportunities for the business, increases the range of services we can provide to our clients and affords significant benefits for our staff. Both firms focus on client care and developing its people, so our combined strength and concentration of local knowledge will continue to set us apart in the market place."
