Police booklet scam

Thanks to one of our members, North East Reprographix who alerted us to a possible scam which could affect other businesses. They were contacted by someone who said they were putting together a booklet for Grampian Police and indicated that they were looking for sponsorship or donations. However the company checked with the Police who said they had no knowledge of such a booklet or of the salesman who contacted them.

Office of Government Commerce

Some local companies have advised us of communications purporting to be issued by the Office of Government Commerce (OGC). See attached document

These communications request that current or potential suppliers return an 'authorisation to release financial information' form and provide other business related information via a fax number. Please do not comply with such requests.

OGC will never request information of this type in this way. Should you have any concerns over the legitimacy of a request, please contact the OGC Service Desk on 0845 000 4999.

'Phishing' or fake security emails

Numerous "phishing" or fake security emails purporting to be from Amazon, HSBC, PayPal or other major financial institutions or retailers. These spam emails can be very convincing. The FSA says "These emails urge customers to submit personal details to avoid fraud and the de-activation of their account. Those duped into providing their details run the risk of losing money from their account or even having their identity stolen."
