Busy city roads to close during maintenance workCraigie Loanings and Albert Street will be closed for up to a fortnight from next Monday [12 December] while urgent road maintenance work is carried out. Significant delays are likely and the travelling public are advised to avoid the area if possible and to allow extra time for their journeys.
Craigie Loanings will be resurfaced and carriageway repairs will be carried out on Albert Street. The two roads will not be closed at the same time.
Enterprise, Planning and Infrastructure director Gordon McIntosh said: “There is no doubt that this work will cause disruption to the many people who use these roads on a daily basis. We apologise for that, but the work must be carried out.
“If this essential repair work is not done the condition of the road, which is already poor, will deteriorate further over the winter months. The job is due to last for two weeks and we will be pulling out all the stops to get it finished as quickly as possible to minimise disruption.
“We will monitor the work and its impact on the roads to ensure that everything which can be done to minimise the effect of the work is done. However, delays are inevitable and I would urge people to use alternate routes or avoid the area if at all possible.”
The Craigie Loanings work, which is expected to take about a week, weather dependent, will be carried out first. The street will be closed between the Rosemount Place and Whitehall Place junctions while it is carried out.
The diversion route is via Rosemount Place, Esslemont Avenue and Whitehall Place, or vice versa.
Albert Street will then be closed between the Whitehall Place and Carden Place junctions.
The diversion route will be via Carden Place, Skene Street, Esslemont Avenue and Whitehall Place, or vice versa.
No parking will be allowed at any time on either road during the works, which are weather dependent.
