CairnToul Sponsors Pipe Band’s Sporrans

With the pipe band season in full swing, one Aberdeenshire pipe band will be well turned out after signing a sponsorship deal with Aberdeen-based CairnToul Well Equipment Services – part of Broad Cairn Services.

Portlethen and District Pipe Band has received £5,000 for the purchase of new sporrans which will carry the name of the independent well services company. The new sporrans will ensure that band members are smartly dressed as the band tours the country performing at highland games, pipe band championships and numerous private functions.

Formed in 1993, Portlethen and District Pipe Band has over 30 playing members. It was recently upgraded to Grade 4A after a successful 2010 competition season, which saw it clinch the Grade 4B title at the 2010 British Championships and crowned Grade 4B Champion of Champions at the 2010 Cowal Championships.

The band practises twice a week in Aberdeen and is working hard to build on its 2010 successes at its new competition level.

John Bain, CairnToul operations director, said: “CairnToul is delighted to be able to support the Portlethen and District Pipe Band in this way. The band members have shown a huge amount of commitment to progress to Grade 4A, and we hope our contribution can help the band to make a bigger impression at forthcoming competitions.

“As a company, we understand the importance of nurturing young talent in our industry and we are pleased to be associated with a band that actively encourages youngsters, and people of all ages, to develop their talents.”

Julie Brinklow, Portlethen and District Pipe Band pipe major, said: “We greatly appreciate the support that CairnToul has shown us and its sponsorship has allowed us to replace our tired old sporrans with some resplendent new ones. The band’s dress and deportment is extremely important at competitions and our smart, new sporrans will help us to look sharp and make a good first impression.”

Established in 1995 following a management buyout, CairnToul specialises in providing a range of onshore and offshore support services to the oil and gas sector. The company’s independence allows it to assemble, repair and test oilfield completion and well services equipment from all the leading manufacturers. A Broad Cairn Services company, CairnToul is headquartered in Aberdeen and employs 35 staff.
