CANDIDATES MOVE INTO THE DRIVING SEAT PREDICTS RIGHTPEOPLEBrett Solomon, the recently appointed senior consultant of RightPeople, Aberdeen predicts a dramatic polar shift in the North East’s recruitment market with candidates about to take over the driving seat. According to Brett, a consistently high oil price, the uplift in the number of North Sea exploration and production projects and its knock on effect in associated service and manufacturing businesses will result in a shortage of skilled employees and businesses will need to rethink their future recruitment strategies.
He comments, “We are on the cusp of a significant shift change for employers. It would be fair to say that employers have for the last 12 months been able to cherry pick the best of the best and have every box ticked. However, the North East recruitment scene is about to go full circle; the message from industry is that commerce is picking up and as we prepare for Offshore Europe the mood of the market is likely to remain very optimistic.
With this mood and a predicted recruitment surge businesses will still expect high level candidates but because of the high demand they might not be available. Employers will need to look to recruits who may not fill the bill entirely but who no doubt will be talented, experienced, have transferable skills and have potential. If employers do not begin to think more laterally in these terms, they may fall behind.”
Brett joins the RightPeople team as senior consultant from Thorpe Molloy and heads the newly created QHSE and supply chain divisions. As a former London based investment banking professional, Brett is all too familiar with the peaks and troughs of the economy’s finances and their fall out.
He continues; “Aberdeen has always been more resilient against economic instability than other regions in the UK but the city may have to be a little bit more flexible in the months ahead. Aberdeen is a city of excellence for the oil and gas industry and people should give it serious consideration when thinking about a life or career change because in the next six to 18 months they could be naming their price.”
RightPeople is one of Aberdeen’s fastest growing independent recruitment consultancies with eight specialist recruitment divisions meeting the needs of industry within the North East. Following Brett’s appointment, the business has created a new division specialising in QHSE and supply chain functions.
