The Chamber opens doors

Jon knows more facts about Africa than you could shake a knobkerrie at; Pat can send your kilts to Kuala Lumpur or your mackerel to Moldova, George will help you mind your Vs and Qs and Andrew will spread stories about you.

In a new initiative to let businesses across the North-east know what it can do for them, Aberdeen & Grampian Chamber of Commerce will hold its first Opens Doors Day at its Bridge of Don premises on Friday August 27. The free lunchtime event, which is aimed at businesses which are not yet members of the Chamber, will give attendees the chance to learn more about the organisation and the many benefits which it can bring to its members.

“We currently represent around 1200 members across the North-east,” said Gordon Geekie, the Chamber’s Senior Membership Account Manager, “but there is still a lot of misconception about who we are and how we work with our members. For example, contrary to what is often popular belief we are not just an organisation for big business - 90% of our members have less than 100 employees and of that total, 74% have fewer than 30 employees. We also represent business across all sectors from hairdressers and activity parks to oil producers and house builders.

“We have a team of 27 here and our areas of expertise include lobbying and representation, skills and training, international development support, event management, business mentoring and specific membership services including free legal advice.”

Delegates will be welcomed by Chief Executive Bob Collier and will also hear directly about the benefits of the Chamber from some of its member organisations before getting the chance to network during a barbecue provided by Chamber member Andrew Gordon Butchery & Fine Foods. They’ll also get the chance to demonstrate their green driving skills during the event.
