Courtesy of VisitScotland and local tourist businesses, a Chinese Blogger has just spent three days in Aberdeen City and Shire furiously generating first hand tourism material for readers of RenRen, the Chinese equivalent to Facebook.

Shuojing Wang, Lufthansa’s official Chinese Blogger, was tasked with highlighting the benefits to the Chinese market of the airline’s new direct route from Frankfurt to Aberdeen.

As one of the world’s largest hub airports, the new route from Frankfurt, launched Monday October 31, means that Aberdeen now has even more potential to bring to the region, with relative ease, worldwide travellers from the likes of Shanghai in China.

Shona Anderson, VisitScotland’s Regional Director, said: “VisitScotland has been instrumental in paving the way to bring this direct route to Aberdeen.

“We’ve worked hard over the past two years on behalf of Aberdeen City and Shire, to manage a very successful marketing campaign aimed at the German audience and we are delighted to spread our influence even further by organising this trip for Shuojing.

“She’s enjoyed a packed itinery and, through her daily blogs on RenRen, we have the potential to reach over 600,000 Chinese visitors to the Lufthansa site as well as 20,000 additional fans on Sina Weibo (Chinese Twitter) and the popular Youku, the Chinese equivilant of Youtube.

“This is an incredibly exciting development and VisitScotland’s highly sophisticated market research has identified huge potential business opportunities from this route alone.”

Shuojing’s programme included visits to The Aberdeen Maritime Museum, Aberdeen Art Gallery, Provost Skene’s House, the Duthie Park Winter Gardens, Kings College, Fittie, Dunnottar Castle, Royal Lochnagar Distillery, Crathes Castle and various traditional restaurants along the route. Her base for the trip was Malmaison in Aberdeen.

Shuojing said: “Aberdeen makes a fantastic base for exploring this part of Scotland, especially if you like to play golf, visit magnificent castles or sample the fascinating range of whiskey that makes the country so famous throughout the world.

“In fact, many of the most interesting distilleries are just a short journey from the city centre.

“Now that Lufthansa operates direct flights into Aberdeen from Frankfurt, with links to a worldwide network, there will be many opportunities for visitors from China to get to know just how much this city and its surroundings have to offer.”
