City pupils thrill with flash dance in playgroundA normal lunch break in a city school playground was disrupted by a baying mob of zombies as pupils recreated an iconic 1980s music video. The usual hustle and bustle of the Kincorth Academy playground was suddenly disturbed by the awakening of a zombie army.
Some120 pupils broke into the iconic dance routine immortalised in Michael Jackson’s Thriller video where the pop star was joined by a cast of hundreds to perform a zombie dance.
The impromptu flash dance, which have become an Internet phenomenon across the world, was not only a great way to get the school pupils working together but formed part of the pupil’s Curriculum for Excellence, comprising the movement and dance element pupils are expected to complete.
Student teacher Sophie Boyne (25), who is carrying out the teacher training element of her course at Kincorth Academy, was asked to come up with an enterprising way to utilise the Curriculum for Excellence and choreographed the routine.
Drama teacher Catherine Rankin helped Sophie with her project and the two put in countless hours of rehearsal with the large dance crew ahead of their lunchtime display.
Mrs Rankin said: “It has been a great way to get the pupils really excited about their work. There has been no sign of reluctance from any of the pupils. They’ve all embraced the concept, worked together in rehearsals to make sure they all know the various elements of the dance.
“It’s a great way for the pupils to develop their confidence and skills whilst getting recognition for all their hard work.
“I’m delighted for Sophie and all the pupils taking part that the routine has turned out so well. It was a great spectacle and I think everyone taking part really enjoyed themselves.” 68 views
