CLAN CANCER SUPPORT APPOINTS NEW BOARD MEMBERS

An Aberdeen-based cancer support charity has announced the appointment of four new board members - Dr Vijay Jandial, Gregory Poon, Andrew Spence and Bruce Webster.

Dr Vijay Jandial retired in 2002 following 30 years as eminent consultant, clinical director and lecturer. Throughout his career Dr Jandial has been active in the voluntary sector with Couple Counselling Grampian and, until recently, as Chairman of VSA and he is looking forward to working with CLAN at this exciting stage of the charity’s development.

Gregory Poon retired from the NHS Grampian in 2010 after 23 years in senior management roles. He has a special interest in health care in the community setting and inequality among ethnic minority groups. In 2004 he was awarded an MBE for his contribution to nursing and racial equality. Mr Poon is delighted to be joining CLAN’s board and having the opportunity to work with another healthcare organisation.

Andrew Spence joined Aberdeen & Grampian Chamber of Commerce in 2010 in a newly created role to support the Chamber’s policy and communications work. A Robert Gordon University graduate, he gained communications experience with local oil and gas operator TOTAL E&P UK. Like the other new members Mr Spence is also excited about joining the charity’s board at this time as looks forward to assisting CLAN with its strategic aims.

Bruce Webster has worked in human resources related services for around 30 years. In 2002 he jointly established subsea specialists ISS where his primary role is as HR/administration director. Mr Webster also brings a wide range of business skills and entrepreneurship to the team.

CLAN’s chief executive, Debbie Thomson said: “We are delighted to welcome Andrew, Bruce, Gregory and Vijay to the Board. Their range of skills and expertise will bring strength and greater diversity to our board.

“Our move to our new centre at the end of last year offers us tremendous scope to further develop our support services in Aberdeen and in the community. Our Board members all give their time and expertise freely and I very much look forward to working with them to ensure that CLAN remains a leading charity provider of cancer support services in the North East, Orkney and Shetland.”

CLAN Cancer Support is an independent charity which offers support to anyone affected by cancer. Based in Aberdeen, the charity covers the whole of Grampian, Orkney and Shetland. CLAN is also developing services in the community and now has a presence in Ballater, Inverurie, Peterhead, Stonehaven, Orkney and Shetland.
