CLAN CANCER SUPPORT GETS SET FOR LAWN BOWLS COMPETITION

An Aberdeen-based cancer support charity is looking forward to battling it out with the corporate community during the next event in the activitymix Aberdeen Corporate Decathlon.

A team from CLAN Cancer Support will be taking to the lawns of Balgownie Bowling Club during the lawn bowls event this weekend (Sunday, September 11).

The team will include staff, supporters and volunteers from the charity and will be captained by dedicated CLAN volunteer Louisa Low – who will be celebrating her 80th birthday next month.

Fundraising manager for CLAN Cancer Support, Susan Crighton, said: “I think we must hold the record for the oldest team member in the entire decathlon!

“Louisa’s dedication to CLAN and her enthusiasm for taking part in the lawn bowls event has been fantastic and has really spurred the whole team on. We are really looking forward to seeing her in action on Sunday and just hope that the rest of us can keep up with her!”

“The decathlon is proving to be a great ‘team bonding’ exercise for us, bringing together people who work within CLAN House and the local community but may not necessarily get the time to relax and get to know each other. We are also thoroughly enjoying the chance to try our hands at so many different sports.

“We cannot thank activitymix enough for its support and we are already looking forward to the basketball challenge in October.”

Adele Wilson, Aberdeen manager for activitymix said: “We are delighted to be able to offer CLAN the chance to join our teams in the Aberdeen Corporate Decathlon as part of our support. To have a team member on the verge of celebrating their 80th birthday is just fantastic and we hope that Louisa thoroughly enjoys being part of the team.”

The lawn bowls event takes place at Balgownie Bowling Club on Sunday, September 11, between 9.00am and 5.00pm.

activitymix has pledged to support CLAN Cancer Support over the next year. As part of being the company’s chosen charity, activitymix has also given CLAN the opportunity to enter a team in its Aberdeen corporate decathlon, which sees businesses and organisations compete in various activities in year-long tournament.
