Comedy Night Gives Cancer the Red CardThis April will see two well-known Aberdeen organisations coming together in the name of comedy and charity. The cancer charity CLAN Cancer Support and local football team Dyce ITC Hydraulics are forming an allegiance to help each of their causes.
Saturday 30 April at the Hilton Treetops Hotel will see the launch of the CLAN Comedy Night. Behind the event are six Robert Gordon University Communication and Media students who have devoted themselves to planning and implementing the night as part of their third year course.
The night is aimed at local businesses and individuals who want to support CLAN and the football club. The event will include a three course meal, some fantastic entertainment from Breakneck Comedy group which features You Tube phenomenon 'The Weeman', and both an auction and raffle prize to finish the night. Money raised on the night is set to be split between both CLAN and Dyce ITC FC.
CLAN is an Aberdeen based charity which is providing help and support to anyone affected by any type of cancer since 1983. All profits from the night for CLAN will go towards the new CLAN House and Haven - a new and improved support centre that will allow the charity to expand its services.
Duncan Charles, Fundraising Co-ordinator for CLAN spoke of his excitement for the event: "I was delighted when I heard that the students had chosen CLAN to benefit from the Comedy Night. I hope that local businesses will get behind this event and come along and support the students and CLAN. The money raised on the night will help towards the new larger premises that will allow us to continue providing the much needed services and help even more people affected by cancer."
The other half of the profits will go towards supporting Dyce ITC Hydraulics Football Club. The team play at Pitmedden Road and are sponsored by ITC Hydraulics, an Aberdeen business that provides Hydraulic services. The money raised for the club will help pay for facilities and strips for the team. Gary Paul, Treasurer of the club says:
"The club is very excited for this partnership with CLAN. We hope that the night will raise lots of money and awareness for both parties. The money will help us students for all of the hard work that has made this night possible"
Companies or individuals wishing to attend the comedy night or donate a raffle/auction prize should contact Louise Gray, 0804641@rgu.ac.uk.
