COMMUNITY TURNS OUT TO SHAPE MILLTIMBER EXPANSIONA public consultation on the future expansion of Milltimber closed on Friday (24 June), with developer CALA Homes delighted by the turn out and level of participation by local residents. The proposals, prepared in response to the site’s allocation in the new Aberdeen Local Development Plan, outlined the potential pattern of development and how this would relate to Milltimber.
Mike Naysmith, Aberdeen-based Regional Director at CALA Homes, said: “We would like to thank all of those who took the time to come along and speak to us about our plans. Having the opportunity to engage with the local community is hugely important to us during this key stage of the planning process.”
The proposals comprise high quality family housing, local facilities and affordable housing for the area. CALA Homes is also in discussions with Aberdeen City Council about plans to replace the present 40-year-old Milltimber Primary with a modern school serving the whole community.
Mr Naysmith continued: “We received various comments on the location of the primary school which led to alternative suggestions in and around Milltimber.
“The nature of the proposed housing was also an important area for discussion, including getting the right mix of private and affordable housing with a clear preference for owner occupied housing and lower density development.
“We received mixed feedback on whether local facilities, for example retailing, is preferable to employment uses, or indeed whether housing should be the single land use within the expansion area.”
CALA is keen to receive further completed feedback forms no later than Monday, 1 August in order to gather as many comments as possible on key issues and relate the proposals directly to the existing community.
The next stage will see CALA engage in discussions with Aberdeen City Council on how the Masterplan moves forward so that a refined proposal can be established for further comment from the community.
The Masterplan will be submitted to Aberdeen City Council prior to the end of this year. Thereafter, CALA will submit their planning application and hope to commence development in 2013.
Residents have until Monday, 1 August to return their completed feedback forms. Alternatively, they can write to CALA at their offices in Westhill. 187 views
