CORPORATES BOUNCE THEIR WAY INTO THE FINAL CHALLENGE IN ABERDEEN CORPORATE DECATHLON

Beacon Basketball Club will host the final event of the Aberdeen Corporate Decathlon on Saturday 8th and Sunday 9th October. The Basketball Challenge sponsored by Apache will be held over two days at the Beacon Centre in Bucksburn, as teams in Leagues 1 & 2 prepare for their final challenge.

Coached training sessions were provided at the Beacon Centre to help introduce the many new players to the sport. After being taught the difference between a lay-up and an ally-up and a slam dunk from a ker-plunk, participants are feeling up to the challenge!

Lisa Lawrence, Secretary for Beacon Basketball Club said, ‘When activitymix approached us about getting involved with the Corporate Decathlon we were delighted to come on board.  This has been an excellent opportunity for our club to increase participation and awareness of the basketball community in Aberdeen, not to mention the benefit of a fantastic fundraising opportunity.  All the teams have been very enthusiastic at training and it looks like it will be a very exciting competition this weekend’.

Apache are sponsors of this weekend’s Basketball Challenge, who are currently sitting in 10th position in League 2 this season.

Craig Costello, Production Engineering Supervisor & Basketball Captain for Apache said, It has been great to see such strong participation at the Tuesday night training sessions organised by activitymix & Beacon Basketball Club. Such enthusiasm is exciting to be a part of; in fact Apache are so excited we will have 2 teams participating in the fun on the day. Although the NBA is in lockout over wage discussions right now, this weekend’s tournament will be going ahead! Apache wishes the best of luck to all of the teams competing across both days!’

Things are so tight at the top of League 1; it currently can’t be called who will come out in pole position.  Shell are currently holding onto the top spot with 502 decathlon points but CNR International are closing in with 488 points in second place and Wood Group are coming up strong in third place with 470 points!

In League 2, PwC are in first place with an impressive score of 551 decathlon points! Champion Technologies are sitting in second place with a score of 425 points and TAQA are in third place with 418 points, but with the scores for the Personal Health Challenge still to be revealed…it could all change in both leagues after this weekend!

With everything still to play for in both leagues we are expecting some fierce competition from teams as they currently search for the next Michael Jordan on their payrolls in preparation!
