Council to welcome first parent representatives to Education Committee

Councillors today (Thursday) unanimously backed plans to invite two parents to stand as representatives on Aberdeen City Council’s Education, Culture and Sport Committee.

At a Full Council meeting a motion put forward by Councillor Irene Cormack to welcome two parent representatives to join the committee to focus on education matters was unopposed.

Councillor Irene Cormack, who is a member of the committee, said: “I am delighted that we have at last achieved parent representation on the Education, Culture and Sport Committee.

“We already have three religious and two teacher representatives. Surely parents have as much right to a voice on this committee. I wish the parents the best of luck in their endeavours – their contribution will be invaluable.”

The two parents will be selected from the Aberdeen City Parent Council Forum, one will represent nursery, primary and special needs schools whilst the other represents the city’s secondary schools.

The parents will have the same voting rights as any other member of Aberdeen City Council’s Education, Culture and Sport Committee.
