Councillors show their support for 425-house development planned for StoneywoodAberdeen city councillors have backed plans for a major new housing development on land at Stoneywood Estate. Development Management Sub-committee members supported the scheme to build 425 houses at a meeting today [29 September].
The application received the unanimous backing of councillors.
The 86-acre site includes two historic buildings, the Category B listed Stoneywood House and the Category C listed Stoneywood House Lodge.
The Stoneywood Estate development envisages a neighbourhood centre, landscaping, open spaces and recreational facilities. There will also be a health centre and community pharmacy.
Land beside the River Don, at the north end of the site, would be used to create the Northern River Park. Five other public spaces will be created across the site. A network of walking routes and cycle paths and improved public transport links are also included in the plan.
Sub-committee vice-convener Councillor John Corall said: “Stoneywood is an extremely attractive location with excellent air, train and business links close at hand.
"This is a sizeable development that will not only fill a housing gap but also provide vital community facilities, such as a health centre and pharmacy. I am in no doubt that once work gets under way people will be queuing up to move in."
Land at Stoneywood is identified in proposed Local Plan policies for around 500 houses for the period 2007-2016. The Local Plan also identified the need for a masterplan to be prepared for Stoneywood. This was approved by the Council’s Enterprise Planning and Infrastructure Committee at a meeting in May.
The Stoneywood Estate proposal complies with the strategic principles and housing land allocations outlined in the Council’s approved structure plan and the southern part of the site is allocated for built development. 101 views
