Councillors to consider new poster pricing plan for multi-seater taxis

Councillors have been asked to consider erecting new notices in multi-seater taxis to raise awareness of the pricing policy with customers.

Members of the Licensing Committee will meet on 23 November to discuss investigating the cost and practicalities of introducing laminated signs in multi-seater taxis in the city.

A report will go before the committee after the Taxi Consultation Group (TCG) agreed an Aberdeen City Council endorsed poster with a detailed pricing policy would help customers understand the fare policy.

Drivers of multi-seater vehicles are permitted to charge 50% extra on top of the normal fare when carrying five or more passengers. The surcharge does not apply when carrying four or less passengers.

In a report to go before the committee, officers have recommended the committee notes the TCG request and orders a report into incidents of overcharging in multi-seater taxis, the cost of producing new signage as well as how it could be implemented alongside the existing tariff card in the city’s taxi fleet.

If councillors back the recommendation, a report will be produced on the various factors surrounding new signage for the committee to consider at a later date.
