Cut Office Waste to Cut Office CostsIt has been reported that paper usage increases by 20% every year with the average office worker going through 1,584 sheets of A4 paper per month. All businesses have a legal duty to look after the environment and to provide appropriate arrangements for the disposal of their waste and it’s estimated to cost companies an average of 4.5% of their annual turnover to dispose of office waste appropriately.
An Aberdeen reprographics firm is urging businesses to re-think office procedures this year, as small changes could make a huge difference to recycling rates and improve in-house corporate social responsibility policies.
North East Reprographics (NER), which is a premier partner of Xerox and supplies machines and services including printers, copiers, document management and scanning, has been encouraging clients to consider their printing procedures to combat the increasing paper waste figures.
NER Managing Director, John Sheran, said: “These recent figures are quite surprising and we are all responsible for reducing waste to safeguard the environment for future generations. Encouraging staff to recycle in the workplace is becoming more and more popular but there are other options to help lower waste rates into your business.
“Companies should consider using systems that can control printing in the workplace by setting limits on the amount of print, copying and fax jobs each individual can perform on a daily or weekly basis. Or firms can begin to monitor print patterns of each department, allowing them to make changes to reduce the amount of paper waste in the workplace. There are lots of options around to tackle this waste issue, it’s just important that firms find the right solution for their problems.”
A major cause of paper waste in the workplace is the number of extra print outs made due to documents being picked up at the printer by the wrong person. NER offer clients a secure key card system that can eliminate this problem, allowing staff to swipe their card at the printer for the print job to follow. In addition to decreasing re-prints, it also acts as a safety measure for confidential documents.
NER has been operating in the Aberdeen market for over 17 years and cater for hundreds of small local businesses and global organisations.
