Debaters reach Newcastle FinalFor the fourth consecutive year, Robert Gordon's College debaters reached the final of the Northern Junior Debating Competition. The event was held in the Royal Grammar School Newcastle on Saturday 24 September and featured 52 teams from across the UK. Both RGC teams – Morag Forbes and Maura Buchanan; Conor Keir and Tomas Sanders (all S4) – acquitted themselves very well with Morag and Maura reaching the final, having finished third after three preliminary rounds. The final was a Scotland v England affair with the proposition side comprising teams from Tunbridge Wells Girls Grammar School and Central High School Newcastle while George Heriot’s joined RGC in opposition. The motion for the final was ‘This House would break the law to benefit the environment’ and the judges’ decision went in favour of Heriot’s after a high quality debate. 96 views
