Dyce School and Bond Join in Business

The very first winners of the Bond Endeavour Prizes, 2011, have just been presented with their awards by Wendy Wallace, Head Teacher of Dyce School and Graham Wildgoose, Ground Operations Manager at Bond, at the end of year service with pupils, staff, parents and friends of the school.

The presentations marked the successful business partnership between the helicopter operator and the school which began at the turn of the year.

Wendy Wallace said: “Our unique business partnership with an organisation like Bond gives the pupils, especially those in P7, an insight into what goes on within the aviation industry and allows pupils to think about possible future career paths. With Curriculum for Excellence our link also affords us fantastic and very real opportunities for learning actively in a meaningful way across the curriculum.”

During the last school term, P7 pupils visited Bond’s Operational Base in Aberdeen and were delighted to be given a tour of the passenger terminal, operations room, hangars and aircraft. After the initial visit to the hangars there were reciprocal visits to classes from engineers and pilots in order to give the pupils an insight into how aircraft and the operation works.

Graham Wildgoose said: “The last term was a trial for what is envisaged will happen with each P7 class for the next 5 years with the teaching and learning process spread over the whole school year. The Bond staff who took part in this exercise gained as much enjoyment from the experience as the pupils did and, as part of the local Dyce community, Bond is proud to assist in the learning process of the pupils.”

The Bond sponsored Endeavour Prizes are presented to a boy and girl from each primary year who, judged by all staff and not just teachers, have worked hard and been responsible citizens during the school year.
