EASTERN AIRWAYS ADDS THIRD DAILY ABERDEEN – STAVANGER FLIGHT

UK regional airline Eastern Airways is to increase services offering three flights each weekday from Aberdeen to Stavanger, which will launch on the eve of Offshore Europe 2011.

The increase in flights from two to three each weekday will take place on 5 September 2011. Eastern Airways first launched the Stavanger route in 2007 in response to demand from the energy sector and has proved to be a vital link for businesses.

Norway is the third largest exporter of oil in the world and most major energy companies have bases in Stavanger.

Weekday services will depart Aberdeen at 6.50am, 11.10am and 3.30pm, arriving in Stavanger at 8.50am, 1.20pm and 5.40pm on weekdays (8.40am on Fridays, arriving at 11.10am), From Stavanger weeekday flights leave at 10am, 2.15pm and 6.05pm local time, arriving in Aberdeen at 10.10am, 2.25pm and 6.15pm (10.30am on Fridays, arriving 10.40am in Aberdeen).

Eastern Airways also offers a Sunday service from Aberdeen to Stavanger.

Kay Ryan, Eastern Airways’ commercial director, said the enhanced frequency reinforced the airline’s commitment to maintaining strong links between the major oil hubs.

“We provide city links and easy onward connections for business travellers. Demand has increased on the Aberdeen – Stavanger route, which has a number of major companies based in both cities and the extra flights will meet the needs of frequent travellers,” she said.

“The majority of our customers travelling on business are made up of key personnel working in the oil and gas industry, so by offering this additional service we are also giving passengers greater choice.”

Eastern Airways also offers flights from Aberdeen to more destinations throughout the UK than any other carrier, with connections to Bristol, Cardiff, Durham Tees Valley, Newcastle, Southampton, Leeds Bradford, East Midlands, Humberside, Norwich, Stornoway and Wick.

Derek Provan, Aberdeen Airport’s Managing Director, said: “Access to the Scandinavian markets, particularly Stavanger, is vital for our passengers. This announcement strengthens our connectivity into the region which is of particular importance to our business passenger. I am pleased to see Eastern Airways reacting to demand and I am confident this will be a success.”

Bob Collier, chief executive of Aberdeen and Grampian Chamber of Commerce, added: “This is welcome news. Our members consistently point to the need for good global connectivity as being key in helping them grow their businesses. The Stavanger route is a particularly important one for our oil and gas sector and this additional flight will improve their ability to meet and work with colleagues in Norway.

“Aberdeen Airport has invested heavily in improving its infrastructure and it is good to see that level of activity and investment bringing the benefits of new routes and increased levels of service from airlines such as Eastern Airways which provide an important service for this region.”

Although the scheduled timings are designed to suit business passengers, as a former European Capital of Culture with breathtaking fjords and mountains, the Stavanger region is also ideal for tourists.

All passengers flying with Eastern Airways from Aberdeen have access to its dedicated business lounge and can benefit from fast track security access with check-in closing just 30 minutes before departure.

Eastern Airways also offers services from Aberdeen to more destinations throughout the UK than any other carrier, with connections to Bristol, Cardiff, Durham Tees Valley, Newcastle, Southampton, Leeds Bradford, East Midlands, Humberside, Norwich, Stornoway and Wick.

The regional airline, which was formed more than 13 years ago, is consistently rated one of the UK’s most punctual scheduled airlines. Eastern Airways is the UK’s second largest regional carrier and has a fleet of 30 aircraft flying from 21 airports in the UK, Ireland, Norway and France.
