Email Job Offers

Aberdeen and Grampian Chamber of Commerce warns of the latest scam that targets individuals.

Individuals worldwide have received e-mails offering them high profile jobs and asking them to send in their CV and personal details to apply for it. In most cases, the company purportedly offering the job is a bone-fide and reputable company and the address used is also bone fide but not necessarily that of the company in question. In many cases a false and well-known Aberdeen address has been used.

Jon Woodwards, the Chamber's international business director explained: "I received an e-mail from a Canadian lawyer, asking me to check the details of an allegedly Aberdeen - based company that sent him a job offer by e-mail. The company that was referred to in the e-mail does not have any offices in Aberdeen and they confirmed that they had nothing to do with the e-mail.

"Clearly we are faced with a scam and I can only warn everyone not to send any personal details as they run the risk of having their identity stolen. We have informed Aberdeen Trading Standards who will investigate the scam. My advice is to check the authenticity of such companies by contacting them directly by telephone to assure that they are who they purport to be and to verify their address before sending any personal details."
