Exam passes hit record level at Gordon’sA new record was broken at Robert Gordon’s College today with almost one third of Fifth Year pupils achieving 5 As in their Higher results, taking even further the strong academic tradition of the Aberdeen school. In the S5 year group 53 pupils achieved A passes in all five subjects taken at Higher (an increase of 23% on 2010, itself a record year). 93% of the 850 Highers which pupils sat across 29 subjects were passed at A-C grades; the average number of Highers gained by all 177 pupils across the whole of S5 in the College was 4.47.
Mr Hugh Ouston, Head of College comments, “These results are once again hugely impressive and reflect the ability and hard work of both pupils and staff, who have worked so well together to achieve them. The thing that really matters is that each pupil as an individual has the grades they need to win a place on the University course of their choice”.
87% of S4 pupils gained A-B passes at Intermediate 2 and 92% gained Credit passes, that is at Grades 1 or 2, at Standard Grade. At Advanced Higher in Sixth Year pupils did equally well, with almost half gaining 'A' bands, while 73% were at either A or B Grade.
Mr Hugh Ouston, Head of College adds, “The excellent academic results at Gordon’s are a consequence of good teaching, the stimulus of able and motivated friends and the benefits of the self-belief and high expectations which children develop through the other activities they join in school. Opportunities in sport, music, drama and outdoor pursuits, first class pastoral care and attention paid to developing manners, moral values and personal character are all important in themselves and in addition they underpin good results.” 99 views
